Dr R Chidambaram, architect of India’s nuclear programme, passes away at 88

Dr R Chidambaram, former head of the Atomic Energy Commission and one of the architects of India’s nuclear programme, passed away aged 88 in a Mumbai hospital on Saturday. He was one of the few scientists who played a key role in both of India’s nuclear tests, in 1974 and 1998. He was honoured with Padma Shri Award in 1975.
