An 85-year-old Bengaluru resident received around ₹28 lakh after a 40-year-old sandalwood tree in his courtyard was uprooted during heavy rains. He informed Forest Department, which sent the tree to a government depot before its sale to Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited. The company also recognised his efforts in preserving the tree by conferring upon him 'Sandalwood Shiromani' award.
