Signs of a possible rift within TMC surfaced as more than 50% of its MLAs skipped the party's first major protest after its 2026 Bengal Assembly poll defeat. The sit-in was organised against alleged post-poll violence, evictions and use of bulldozers to demolish buildings. This comes amid mass resignations of TMC councillors in two North 24 Parganas municipalities.
