MeitY warns of data risks from proprietary AI models

MeitY Secretary S Krishnan warned that proprietary AI models risk transferring Indian data abroad and training on it. He said India is building a domestic AI stack—covering chips, data, and applications—and exploring open-source models to reduce dependence on foreign AI, while maintaining an open, balanced approach to preserve strategic autonomy.
