The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that northern giant hornets, commonly known as "murder hornets", have been eradicated from the country. "Murder hornets" can destroy a honeybee hive in as little as 90 minutes, and their extremely painful stings have occasionally been fatal to human beings. "The eradication success was the result of a multiyear effort," USDA said.
