short by Pravel Jain / on Thursday, 10 September, 2026
Researchers have named a new Australian insect genus, Swiftiephylus, inspired by Taylor Swift and her albums. The name combines "Swiftie", a term for Swift's fans, with "Phylus", a name commonly used for this group of insects. Swiftiephylus includes four species, Swiftiephylus taylorae (Taylor), Swiftiephylus amator (Lover), Swiftiephylus intrepidus (Fearless) and Swiftiephylus poetorum (Poets).
