Govt asked social media platforms to remove 2.98 lakh URLs from March-July

Government departments asked social media platforms to remove 2.98 lakh URLs between March and July 2026, with states accounting for 2.44 lakh requests. The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) asked platforms to remove 51,000 URLs linked to cyber, infrastructure and stock-investment scams. The takedown period coincided with student protests over the NEET paper leak.
