European orbiter detects hints of volcanic activity on Mars

short by Pravel Jain / on Saturday, 7 November, 2026
Data from the European Space Agency's ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter has revealed hints of possible volcanic activity beneath Mars' surface. Researchers detected hydrogen chloride gas seeping above the Alba Mons volcano region, suggesting magma may be present underground. Mars has the largest volcanoes in the Solar System, but it is not known how active they are.
