UN researchers warned that rapidly expanding AI infrastructure could sharply increase pressure on global resources, with data centres expected to double their power and water consumption by 2030. Data centres consumed 448 terawatt-hours of electricity ​globally last year, exceeding Saudi Arabia's total usage. The report also stressed over land strain and electronic waste linked to AI expansion.
