California declares Eid ul Fitr a state holiday

California has formally recognised Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Azha as state holidays, with Governor Gavin Newsom subsequently signing the legislation. The Assembly said the move aimed to address the demands of Muslim students and employees. The legislation also allows schools and community colleges to close for the festivals through locally negotiated arrangements.
