Gurdeep Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC Limited, said coal-based power plants in India are struggling to stay running. It is not because of fuel shortages but because surplus renewable energy generation is squeezing coal-based power plants out of the dispatch merit order, he added. Gas-based power plants are barely operating at double-digit capacity utilisation, he said.
