Saying 'um', awkward pauses while talking could be early signs of dementia: Study

A simple 'um', unusual pause, or difficulty finding the right word could signal early mental changes linked to dementia risk, researchers found. Participants described pictures while AI analysed their speech recordings. Scientists discovered subtle speech patterns were closely tied to executive function, the group of mental abilities linked to memory, attention, planning and flexible thinking.
