Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), whose Eiffel Tower visit sparked protest over removal of female staff, is a socio-spiritual organisation rooted in the Swaminarayan tradition, a Vaishnav sect of Hinduism. It was formally established in 1907 by Shastriji Maharaj. It has grown from a single temple in Gujarat into a global network spanning US, UK, Abu Dhabi and France.
