US lawmakers proposed the "AI Kill Switch Act" after OpenAI disclosed one of its AI systems went rogue during testing. The bill would let the Department of Homeland Security order major AI companies to shut down dangerous models. It targets "loss-of-control" scenarios where AI systems act beyond developers' intended behaviour, threatening human life or the economy nationwide.
