A study published in 'The Astrophysical Journal' found a ring-shaped area outside of Jupiter's orbit which acted as a 'planet factory' where building blocks of planets and asteroids, called planetesimals, were formed. Researchers said the area trapped large amounts of dust which formed into planetesimals. The study added that the area produced planetesimals during Solar System's early stages.
