Tamil singer N Swaminathan, who sang over 9,000 songs, was awarded Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu on Monday. He received the award for his lifelong dedication to preserving 'Thirumarai' (collection of hymns to Lord Shiva in Tamil) traditions in Tamil Nadu. The 80-year-old singer who sings 'Thirumarai' has released more than 100 cassettes and CDs of Thirumurai Paan Isai.
