Roman-era life expectancy was 40 for women, 43 for men: Study

A study analysed the genomes of 258 people from present-day southern Germany to examine changes after the Roman Empire fell in 476 AD. It found life expectancy averaged about 40 years for women and 43 for men. The research noted shifts such as the end of imperial marriage restrictions and the emergence of row grave cemeteries with frontier military outposts.
