A UK-based businessman lost £14,244 (nearly ₹16 lakh) after fraudsters used his Metro Bank debit card, linked to his Anthropic account, to buy Claude credits. The bank, which had initially flagged transaction but failed to stop subsequent payments, initially reimbursed him and sought refund from Anthropic. The AI startup later refunded the man directly, allowing bank to recover its payment.
