An ivory gavel with a unique hourglass shape, currently used by US Senate to conduct its business, was gifted by India. Only two gavels have been used by Senate to date. The first was used from 1789-1954 before it broke, after which India gifted its replacement. The gavel is tapped by presiding officer to maintain order during Senate proceedings.
