Union Minister for Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh said there is no officially defined category called "Super El Niño" by World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) or the India Meteorological Department (IMD). He said El Niño events are classified as weak, moderate, strong or very strong. Singh added that the IMD has predicted development of El Niño conditions during 2026 southwest monsoon season.
