Defending champions Italy were knocked out of Euro 2024 in the round of 16 stage of the tournament, following a 0-2 loss against Switzerland. Switzerland defeated Italy after 31 years following goals by Remo Freuler and Ruben Vargas in the 37th and 46th minutes of the match. Switzerland had recorded eight wins in their previous 61 matches against Italy.
