Australian journalist Avani Dias has claimed she was forced to leave India abruptly and was denied a visa extension to cover the Lok Sabha 2024 elections. She alleged her coverage of Khalistani leader Hardeep Nijjar's killing in Canada was the reason behind the denial. The government, while calling her claims "misleading and mischievous", said Dias left because of "personal reasons".
