Defending champion Alcaraz reaches Japan Open semis after opponent retires due to injury

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz reached the Japan Open semi-finals after his opponent Denis Shapovalov retired injured during their quarter-final match in Tokyo on Sunday. The seven-time Grand Slam champion was leading 7-6(4), 2-1 when the Canadian withdrew after appearing to hurt his hip early in the second set. The defending champion will face fellow Spaniard Jaume Munar in the semi-finals.
