Temperatures reached 36.7°C in southwest England, while Switzerland crossed 37°C for the first time in June, hitting 38°C in Basel. Paris also recorded a June high of 40.9°C on Wednesday, with the city’s hospitals struggling to deal with patients suffering from the heatwave.
