What happens to an NPS account after a person becomes an NRI?

short by Saurav Joshi / on Sunday, 6 September, 2026
An NPS account doesn't close or lapse when a person becomes an NRI, Moneycontrol reported. NRIs can either withdraw their NPS corpus or continue investing. However, NRI and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) subscribers living abroad can contribute to their NPS Tier I or II accounts only through a Non-Resident External (NRE) or Non-Resident Ordinary (NRO) account, Economic Times reported.
