Cortisol, often called stress hormone, is an essential hormone that affects almost every organ and tissue in body. Cortisol levels can be lowered with quality sleep, regular physical activity, deep breathing exercises, laughing and maintaining healthy relationships, according to Cleveland Clinic. If a person has Cushing syndrome, they'll need medical treatment to lower cortisol levels.
