Indians spend 28% more out of their pockets on healthcare in 5 years
Indians' out-of-pocket healthcare spending rose 28.4% to ₹2,767 per person in 2022-23 from ₹2,155 in 2018-19, according to Health Ministry data. Kerala recorded the highest per capita spending at ₹8,388, followed by West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Bihar reported the lowest at ₹1,043, followed by Assam and Chhattisgarh.
