France may tax the internet at ₹5.83 for every GB of data

French lawmakers have approved a proposal to tax the internet at €0.055 (₹5.83) for every gigabyte (GB) of data that French users consume. The tax will be paid by content providers, who are likely to pass it on to consumers. The proposed tax is likely to generate €10 billion (₹1.05 lakh crore) in additional revenue annually for the French government.
