US President Donald Trump has said he was considering "getting rid of" the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Officially implemented in April 1979, FEMA responds to disasters in the US when the resources of local and state authorities are overwhelmed. The agency, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, is funded by the US Congress.
