Goa Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Varsha Sharma rejected allegations that police helped nightclub owners Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra flee India after a fire at their Romeo Lane outlet. She suggested that those working inside the nightclub may have been the first to notify the owners. The assumption that a police insider facilitated the escape "is absolutely wrong", she said.
