The Patna High Court acquitted a man who was convicted of rape in 2013 by a trial court, ruling that promise to marry amounts to rape only if false from start. "The false promise itself must be of immediate relevance, or bear a direct nexus to the woman's decision to engage in the sexual act," the court said.
