County team lose captain for rest of season after admin blunder

Middlesex captain Leus du Plooy will miss the rest of the season after the club failed to register him as an overseas player before the 6 September deadline. Declaring his intention to play for South Africa automatically ended his local-player status under ECB rules. He will also miss the Metro Bank Cup final, Middlesex's first List A final since 1990.
