Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma announced on Monday that Governor Vijayashankar gave his assent to the Meghalaya Official Language Ordinance, 2026 making Khasi and Garo official languages of the state. Taking to X, Sangma wrote, "This will further strengthen our aspirations to have Khasi and Garo recognised in the Eighth Schedule." The Ordinance was enacted under Article 213(1) of the Constitution.
