Multiple States and Union Territories (UTs) have been renamed since India’s Independence. United Provinces became Uttar Pradesh, Madras State was renamed Tamil Nadu, Mysore State became Karnataka, Uttarakhand was earlier called Uttaranchal and Orissa was renamed Odisha. Laccadive, Minicoy, and Amindivi Islands became Lakshadweep. Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved changing Kerala’s name to Keralam.
