The Supreme Court on Monday allowed the issuance of an SC certificate to a girl from Puducherry based on her mother’s caste. “With changing times, why should a caste certificate not be issued based on the mother’s caste?” CJI Surya Kant said. The girl’s mother belongs to the 'Adi Dravida' SC community, while her father is from a non-SC community.
