How did West Bengal's economy change from 1960 to 2024?

West Bengal's share in national GDP was the third-largest at 10.5% in 1960-61, but it dipped drastically and was only 5.6% in 2023-24, a paper by EAC-PM shows. Similarly, its per capita income, which was above national average in 1960-61 at 127.5%, declined to 83.7% in 2023-24. The paper said even Odisha, seen as laggard, improved in last 20 years.
