BMC warns residents of disease that spreads through floodwater, issues advisory

Amid heavy monsoon rains and waterlogging in Mumbai, the BMC warned residents of the increased risk of leptospirosis, a bacterial disease spread through floodwater contaminated with the urine of infected animals. The bacteria can enter the body through cuts, wounds or the eyes, nose and mouth. People exposed to waterlogged areas are advised to seek medical consultation within 24-72 hours.
