FIEO CEO Ajay Sahai said India is "much better placed" than other nations after US President Donald Trump announced 26% reciprocal tariffs on India. However, sectors like electronic products worth ₹1.19 lakh crore and gems and jewellery worth over ₹77,000 crore will be affected, Reuters reported. India could expand or maintain its agricultural exports despite US tariffs, an economist said.

Certain commodities have been kept out of the ambit of US President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs announced on Wednesday (April 2). Pharmaceuticals, Bullion (physical gold and silver of high purity), energy, some minerals not available in US, copper, steel, aluminium, semiconductors and lumber articles are among them. Pharma products comprise nearly $9 billion worth of exports from India.

Italy's PM Giorgia Meloni called the US reciprocal tariffs "wrong", while Canada's PM Mark Carney said, "We're going to fight these tariffs." Japan said the levy was "extremely regrettable". "It is the American people who will pay the biggest price for these unjustified tariffs," said Australian PM Anthony Albanese. British PM Keir Starmer said, "Trade war is in nobody's interests."

Russia didn't feature on the list of reciprocal tariffs released by US President Donald Trump, who earlier said he'd "tariff the entire world". "Russia isn't on this list because sanctions from the Ukraine war have already rendered trade between the two countries to zero," a White House official told news outlet NOTUS. Trump imposed a 26% reciprocal tariff on India.

A senior Indian government official said the Commerce Ministry is analysing the impact of the 26% tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on Indian goods. "It's a mixed bag and not a setback for India," the official told PTI. The official said that 10% universal tariffs will come into effect from April 5 and remaining 16% from April 10.

Canada and Mexico were excluded from list of countries on which US President Donald Trump imposed new reciprocal tariffs on Wednesday (April 2). However, this doesn't mean they don't face any action as existing 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods are in effect, while some tariffs on automotive products will take effect on Thursday. India faces 26% reciprocal tariffs.

US President Donald Trump announced that 26% "discounted" tariff will be imposed on imports from India. Trump called India "very, very tough", saying, "PM [Narendra Modi] just left. He's great friend of mine, but I said, 'You're a friend of mine but you've not been treating us right'." India charges 52% tariff on goods it imports from US, Trump noted.

The Lok Sabha passed the Waqf Amendment Bill with 288 votes in its favour and 232 votes against it, after a discussion that lasted over ten hours. The changed bill said that at least two non-Muslims should be part of Waqf Boards. During the debate, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said even the Parliament building was being claimed as Waqf property.

An Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter aircraft crashed in Gujarat’s Jamnagar district on Wednesday. Videos have surfaced on social media showing thick plumes of smoke engulfing the area following the crash. Police and emergency services have rushed to the spot. Last month, a Jaguar jet had crashed in Haryana's Ambala district after a training sortie.
