Scientists growing stem cells in space to improve cancer treatment

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station are researching how to produce large quantities of stem cells in microgravity to improve treatments for cancer, immune disorders and other diseases on Earth. Scientists say stem cells grown in space may retain their quality better during expansion and face a lower risk of rejection in patients. Notably, stem cells help repair damaged tissues.
