The Centre intensified its technology-led crackdown on GST fraud in FY26, detecting fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) claims worth ₹74,782 crore across 30,162 cases, more than double the amount identified two years earlier. The CBIC used artificial intelligence, data analytics and other digital tools to uncover fraudulent networks. ITC allows businesses to claim credit for taxes paid on input purchases.
