The Supreme Court said electoral participation should be increased by raising awareness among citizens and not by force. "All are expected to go [and vote]...If they don’t go, they don't go...All that is needed is awareness...we cannot compel," the bench headed by CJI Surya Kant said. SC remarked that any move to penalise those not voting falls under 'policy domain'.
