short by Mansi Agarwal / on Saturday, 20 June, 2026
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Saturday said that the Strait of Hormuz remains open for safe passage of commercial ships. It added that 55 merchant ships transited the waterway, moving large amounts of cargo and over 17 million barrels of oil. The statement comes shortly after Iran announced the closure of the strait, alleging US and Israeli ceasefire violations.
