1 piece of chewing gum can expose a person to 2,50,000 microplastics: Study

Over 2,50,000 microplastics were detected in saliva of a person after one hour of chewing a gum, a study published in Journal of Hazardous Materials said. Microplastics are tiny plastic particles that originate from breakdown of larger plastic items, like microfibers from synthetic clothing. These particles can break down into smaller pieces called nanoplastics, which were also found in saliva.
