Overtraining affects the brain's chemical regulation, study finds
A study on mice found that excessive exercise without adequate rest can disrupt dopamine regulation in the hippocampus, a brain region linked to memory and emotional regulation. Researchers found that dopamine levels remained elevated for up to 48 hours during the animals' resting phase. The findings could help explain how overtraining may contribute to anxiety and sleep disturbances in humans.
