TVK chief Vijay announced that his party would allocate the lone Rajya Sabha seat to the Congress. The seat became vacant after AIADMK leader C Ve Shanmugam resigned from the Upper House following his victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from the Mailam Assembly constituency. The Congress is part of the alliance led by TVK in Tamil Nadu.
