What are the tax rules when a person buys property on wife's name?

When a person buys property in his wife’s name using his own earnings, the payment is treated as a gift. Gifts from spouse are fully tax-exempt under Income-tax Act, so there's no tax liability. However, if property is rented out, the rental income will be clubbed with husband’s income. Rental income and capital gains will be taxed in husband's hands.
