Japan logged a second straight day of "kokushobi"- literally meaning a "brutally hot day" when temperatures reached 40°C or higher - on Wednesday. Cities in central Japan, including Tokyo and Nagoya, recorded temperatures approaching or exceeding 40°C. Amid the intense heat, 4,580 people were hospitalised between July 6-12. Japan recorded its all-time high temperature ‌of ⁠41.8°C in 2025.
