Panama Canal to cut traffic due to El Niño

Panama Canal will cut the number of ships that pass through the narrow artificial waterway each day from 36 to 34 starting September 3, and further to 32 from September 15. The canal's operator blamed low water levels due to drought caused by El Niño. Meanwhile, the ship pass slots' auction hit ₹38 crore, up from the usual ₹1.29 crore.
