Why do dogs often choose to sleep near doors instead of their beds?
short by Dharini Mudgal / on Friday, 9 January, 2026
Senior veterinarian Dr Deepraj Prajapati said that dogs often sleep near doors because they're instinctively wired to monitor entry and exit points of their environment. For many dogs, it offers a strategic vantage point that satisfies their natural drive to protect. In confident dogs, it reflects calm guarding instinct, while in some, it may also indicate anxiety or separation-related stress.
