US newspapers sue OpenAI, Microsoft over use of news articles to train AI
US newspapers The Seattle Times and Newsday have sued OpenAI and Microsoft, alleging they used their articles without permission to train AI systems. The lawsuit claims the companies scraped content, including paywalled material, for datasets powering ChatGPT, Copilot and Bing AI. The papers said these tools can reproduce or paraphrase their reports, reducing traffic and subscriptions.
